While research on translation technologies has long focused on interlingual transfer, the rise of plain language and easy-to-read practices, together with the rapid spread of generative AI, has highlighted the increasing importance of intralingual translation. FLO (Facile da Leggere Online), a digital assistant for Italian, supports text simplification by combining linguistic rules, lexical resources, and artificial intelligence, including generative models, to guide authors in producing accessible texts. Rather than fully automating rewriting, FLO flags issues, suggests alternatives, and explains choices, thereby guiding users in their writing process. The article examines FLO’s design, technical architecture, and pedagogical dimension, with particular attention to issues such as synonymy management, lexical choice, and the balance between automation and human supervision. It shows that FLO promotes clearer documents while fostering user training and metalinguistic awareness, illustrating how AI-inspired tools can reinforce the right to information by advancing accessibility, participation, and transparency in institutional and professional communication.

This article investigates the circulation of translated narrative works in Italian available in Trieste between 1830 and 1930. While translation studies have developed extensively internationally, Italy lacks comprehensive long-term surveys, with existing research often limited to individual authors or specific texts. Trieste offers a particularly compelling case study due to its multilingual and multicultural context within the Austro-Hungarian Empire, its role as a major commercial and publishing hub, and its dynamic literary environment. The study draws on two main sources: the holdings of the “Attilio Hortis” city library and the catalog of publications printed in Trieste, accessed through the OPAC of the Italian National Library System. Excluding classical works, freely adapted texts, and unattributed collections, the research focuses on modern narrative works. A combination of automated keyword searches and manual filtering allowed the identification of translated works, revealing patterns in source languages, genres, and publication trends. By analyzing the data, this study reconstructs the circulation of foreign literature in a key Italian city and highlights the role of translations in shaping the literary and cultural landscape of post-unification Italy. The findings contribute to building a historical profile of Italian narrative, mapping cultural flows, and providing a foundation for future large-scale digital analyses of translated and native literature through distant reading approaches.

The Kalevala, the great Finnish national poem compiled by Elias Lönnrot, contains numerous place names that may be either real or mythical and fictional. The aim of this article is to examine how this latter group is treated in the two most recent Italian versions of the poem ‒ Agrati & Magini (1988) and Ganassini (2010) and in the English version by Peabody Magoun Jr. (1963), considered by many to be the most convincing. While, on the one hand, the Italian scholars mostly (but not always) leave these names in their original form (in some cases explaining the meaning in their commentaries), the American scholar regularly ‘translates’ them following strategies that are illustrated in our study.

This paper aims to discuss the translation solutions identified in the European Portuguese translation of Beppe Fenoglio's La malora. These solutions were adopted according to the author’s translation sensitivity and aimed at reproducing at the same time the peculiarities of his language. Indeed, Fenoglio's translation work from and into English, reveals a particular attention to the sensory sphere, an element that has been attempted to transpose into Portuguese. The translation analysis focuses mainly on the Piedmontese lexical and morphosyntactic elements, which are strategical elements in the socio-linguistic representation of the characters in Fenoglio’s work.
