Abstract
The epochal uphevals which have invested, in recent decades, the world of production, resulted in structural failure of the old European social protection models. The twentieth century insurance century welfare, built around the subjectivity of the citizen-family-man- worker, is not longer able to face the challenges determined by an increasingly heterogeneous subjectivity, floating in the work intermittence and in the unemployment, whose productivity is exploited by private agencies through new development devices: these affect on environmental variables in which subjects decided and design themselves, beyond the employment relationship defined in the contract sense. In this context, the unconditional basic income is the recognition of each person's possibility to exist with dignity beyond the place he/she occupies within the market. By assuming the constitutive relationship between the society and the individual, material conditions and the human dignity, the basic income represents the fundamental pre-condition for the re-appropriation of the space of the decision and the self-determination.
