Abstract
The pervasiveness of medical science in Late Latin culture intercepts the expressive and communicative needs of Christianity and translates itself into numerous metaphors in Augustine’s prose, conveying truths of faith and Christian teachings. This contribu¬tion provides a detailed overview of the metaphor of eye drops and blindness, frequently employed by Augustine in various of his prose works.
La pervasività della scienza medica nella cultura tardolatina intercetta le esi¬genze espressive e comunicative del Cristianesimo e si traduce nella prosa di Agostino in numerose metafore atte a veicolare verità di fede ed insegnamenti cristiani. Il contributo fornisce un’articolata rassegna sulla metafora del collirio e della cecità, sovente impiegata da Agostino in varie sue opere prosastiche.
