Abstract
Stefano Anastasia’s book offers three key reflections. The first concerns the expansion of penalization, which is increasingly presented as a solution to complex social issues, raising concerns about excessive criminalization. The second addresses the crisis of the Welfare State, where welfare policies have been progressively replaced by strategies of control and repression. Lastly, the third examines the reduction of statistical analysis of the public debate, highlighting how criminal law policies are increasingly driven by emotional narratives rather than empirical analysis.
