Abstract
Medea is an archetypical character: a vindictive, infanticidal mother and a sorceress. It is impossible to understand her actions. To try and explain her, a myriad of alternative versions of her story have been created in every existing art form. Her evolution from Greece to Russia (and beyond) is mapped with four stops: Euripides’ Medea (431 BC), a terrible and upsetting tragedy; Medea by Innokenty Annensky (1909), the most famous translation of Euripides’ tragedy into Russian; Klim’s rewriting, a play titled Teatr Medei (The theater of Medea, 2001), that shows Medea’s personality by splitting it in two voices in a dialogue, in two ages of the protagonist. The last stop: extracts from (and reflections on) the translation of Teatr Medei into Italian.
Medea e un personaggio archetipico: maga e madre infanticida e vendicativa. Capire le sue azioni e impossibile. Per tentare di spiegarla si e creata una miriade di versioni alternative della sua storia in ogni forma d’arte esistente. L’evoluzione del personaggio dalla Grecia alla Russia (e oltre) e mappata con quattro tappe: Medea di Euripide (431 a.C.), una tragedia terribile e sconvolgente; Medea di Innokentij Annenskij (1909), la piu celebre traduzione della tragedia euripidea in russo; la riscrittura del drammaturgo ucraino Klim, una piece intitolata Teatr Medei (Il teatro di Medea, 2001) che mostra la personalita di Medea spezzandola in due voci di un dialogo, in due eta della protagonista. L’ultima tappa: estratti della (e riflessioni sulla) traduzione di Teatr Medei in italiano.
