Poetry as an Event: the Experience of Nikolay Gumilev

Abstract
The article attempts to consider poetry
as an event through the experience of
Nikolai Gumilyov, one of the founders
of “Acmeism” – a new literary school
of the early 20th century that replaced
Symbolism, which in itself can be
regarded as an event. The eventful
nature of Gumilyov’s poetry and his
theoretical work on the creation of
an integrated poetics is studied in the
light of the philosophical category
“Age of Poets” developed by the French
philosopher Alain Badiou. We focuse
on Gumilyov’s article “Baudelaire’s
poetry”, where, speaking of the poetry
written by the author of “Les Fleurs
du mal”, Gumilyov formulates his own
understanding of modern poetry as
an event. The emphasis placed on the
explosive nature of poetry and its
readiness to become a catastrophe,
such as the event of the revolution. The
poet turns into an organ of speech for
all that exists and acquires the ability
to perceive revolutionary events,
which allows him to foresee his own
fatal destiny.
В статье предпринята попытка
рассмотреть поэзию как событие на
примере опыта Николая Гумилева,
одного из основателей «акмеиз-
ма» – нового направления поэзии
начала ХХ века, пришедшего на
смену символизму, что само по себе
можно рассматривать как событие.
Событийная природа поэзии Гуми-
лева и его теоретические работы по
созданию интегральной поэтики
рассматривается в свете философ-
ской категории «века поэтов» фран-
цузского мыслителя Алена Бадью.
Внимание сосредоточено на статье
Гумилева «Поэзия Бодлера», где,
рассуждая о поэзии автора Цветов
зла, Гумилев формулирует собствен-
ное понимание новейшей поэзии
как события. Акцент ставиться на
взрывчатом характере поэзии, ее
готовности обратиться катастрофой,
каковой является событие револю-
ции. Поэт обращает себя органом
речи всего существующего и при-
обретает способность восприятия
революционного события, в силу
которого ему дано предвидеть свой
собственный гибельный удел.
