Abstract
Thanks to a recent autopsy I present the updated reading of the inscription engraved on an altar placed by the eques M. Licinius Celer in memory of his dearest friend L. C[- - - -] Gl[- - -], an eques himself. The comparison with an inscription, found in Rome in 1934, makes it possible to remove the doubts that concerned the integration of r. 6. Indeed, it is now possible to confirm, I believe definitively, that we are in presence of the second known epigraphic evidence of a historiographer (historiarum scriptor). Also of interest is the presence of the formula in memoriam, which occurs in many other inscriptions from Aquileia and its territory.
