The Relation Between the Languages of Scientific Communication and National Languages. A Look at Scientific Journals

Abstract
This study addresses the editorial language policies of scientific journals regarding less widely spoken languages and focuses the field of linguistic and philological studies in Slovenia. On the one hand, the question is posed whether there are (and how many) journals, as it can generally be seen more often in various areas, that do not publish in the official language of the country and do not develop strategies to guarantee the accessibility and comprehension in the country of publication. On the other hand, the study explores the relation between the currently most widely used language of scientific communication (English), the national language and the "second-ranked international languages" (Ammon 2015) which have for many years played an important role in this area.
Il lavoro affronta le politiche linguistiche editoriali che riguardano le lingue di minore diffusione internazionale, nel caso specifico le riviste specializzate nel settore degli studi sulla lingua, comprese le singole filologie, in Slovenia. Da un lato, si pone la domanda se ci sono e quante sono sono le riviste che, come si osserva generalmente sempre piu spesso in vari settori, non pubblicano nella lingua del paese e non sviluppano delle strategie per garantire l’accessibilita o comprensibilita nel paese della pubblicazione. D’altro lato, si esplora il rapporto tra l’inglese in quanto lingua della comunicazione scientifica attualmente piu diffusa, la lingua nazionale e le “lingue internazionali di secondo rango” (Ammon 2015) che hanno tradizionalmente rivestito un ruolo importante sul territorio.
