Abstract
L’articolo si propone di affrontare il tema del Waterfront redevelopment
che interessa Beirut e in particolare il processo di riqualificazione
del suo porto. L’obiettivo è duplice: indagare le fasi di
trasformazione del porto nel maggior approdo regionale del Mediterraneo
orientale e verificare l’impatto del ripensamento delle funzioni
degli spazi urbani in rapporto al mare.
È in atto una vera e propria metamorfosi della capitale libanese, che
deve tener conto delle difficoltà logistiche inerenti alle ridotte dimensioni
del porto e del riordino dei frammenti di una società fondata
sul principio multiconfessionale politico e religioso.
The article aims to address the Waterfront redevelopment involving
Beirut, in particular the process of upgrading its harbour, for a double
objective: examining the phases of the transformation of the harbour
into the major dock in the Eastern Mediterranean and verify the impact
of the reconsideration of the urban areas in relation to the sea.
A real metamorphosis of the Lebanese capital is in place, and it has
to take into account the logistical difficulties related to the small size
of the harbour and the reorganization of the fragments of a society
based on a political and religious multi-denominational principle.
