Abstract
Nell’isola, la terra e l’acqua stanno in opposizione. Ma anche in un
rapporto di co-appartenenza. L’isola, infatti, non è terra e non è acqua.
È terra e acqua: unità discorde che contiene gli opposti.
Ciò fa di essa uno spazio non univoco, che si presta, come tale, a
trasformarsi in un perfetto emblema sia della navigatio rationis (si
pensi ai viaggi utopici) sia della navigatio vitae (in questo caso caratterizzandosi,
volta per volta, come luogo dell’esilio o dell’asilo).
Spazio privilegiato dell’immaginario e del desiderio, l’isola permette
di sperimentare “mondi possibili” e d’inventare finte carte dei sentimenti:
quella, per esempio, dell’«Isle de Pureté» di Pierre Le Moyne
(uno dei possibili modelli ispiratori della Carte de Tendre), o quella
dell’«Isle des Coquets» di Hédelin d’Aubignac (la quale della Carte
scudéryana, invece, è il riflesso capovolto).
In the island, earth and water are opposed. But they are also in a relation
of reciprocal belonging. The island, in effect, is not earth and
not water. It is earth and water: clashing unity that keeps together the
opposites.
For this reason the island is a not a univocal space. As such, it can
transform itself in a perfect symbol either of the navigatio rationis (i.e.
the utopian voyages) or the navigatio vitae (becoming from time to
time a place of exile or asylum).
Privileged space of imagination and desire, the island allows to experiment
“possible worlds” and to invent fake maps of feelings: as, for
example, that of Pierre Le Moyne’s «Isle de Pureté» (one of the possible
inspirations of the Carte de Tendre), or that of Hédelin d’Aubignac’s
Isle des Coquets» (an overturned reflection of Scudéry’s Maps).
