Abstract
This contribution aims to provide a broad overview of the complexity of a concept – desert - that is as intuitive and present in common usage as it is problematic and controversial on a theoretical level. The discussion will examine the debate that has unfolded over the past sixty to seventy years around this concept, highlighting its critical aspects (in metaphysical, epistemological, and justice-related terms) and the counterarguments offered by those who seek to emphasize the importance of a notion, which for others appears almost obsolete.
Questo contributo vuole offrire un assaggio di ampio respiro sulla complessità di un concetto, quello di merito, tanto intuitivo e presente nell’uso comune quanto problematico e controverso sul piano teorico. Verrà considerato il dibattito che, negli ultimi sessanta-settant’anni, si è sviluppato intorno a questo concetto, con le criticità (in senso metafisico, epistemologico e legate al tema della giustizia) e con le contro-argomentazioni offerte da coloro che cercano di rimarcare l’importanza di questa nozione, per altri pressoché obsoleta.
