Abstract
This essay is dedicated to the work of Father Bernardino Pianzola (1721-1803), a native of Domodossola, who was a missionary in the eastern Mediterranean countries for a dozen years. After returning to Italy, he gave the prints a two-volume work with the title "Dizionario, Grammatiche, e Dialoghi per apprendere le Lingue Italiana, Latina, Greca-volgare, e Turca" (Padua 1781); a second revised and corrected edition was published in 1789 and finally a third in 1801. L. Rocchi's work aims to conduct a systematic examination of all the Turkish language material present in Pianzola's work, a material that is very interesting for it's features: there are a very large number of textual variants and dialectal traits, as well as several typical solecisms of the spoken log. Ultimately, Father Pianzola's laborious work is one of the most important sources for the Turkish-Ottoman study of the eighteenth century.
