Abstract
In this article we will try to take stock of the current state of the art of the researches, which are in continuous evolution, that have been carried out in recent years on the subject and on the places of the Claustra Alpium Iuliarum, late Roman defence barriers that blocked the Eastern access door to Ancient Italy, located in discontinuous and sometimes multiple stretches between Rijeka or the ancient Tarsatica and the upper Isonzo or Soča Valley. In recent years archaeological excavations have been carried out in the principia of Tarsatica, in the fort of Solin near Kostrena, at the barriers of Jelenje, Studena and Prezid / Babno polje, as well as in the fort of Pasjak for the Croatian part, while in Slovenia excavations and geophysical surveys have recently been carried out at the barriers of Benete, Novi pot, Gradišče near Robu, Ajdovski zid, but also in the fortresses of Nauportus in Vrhnika and Castra in Ajdovščina. The analysis of the LiDAR data was also valuable and thanks to it was possible to recognize additional traits for some already known barriers, as well as to report some potential new barriers both in Slovenia and in Croatia.
