Abstract
Quest’articolo tratta della poesia e della pittura canadesi degli anni venti e mostra l’importanza che l’osservazione della luce ha avuto in esse. In questo, particolare attenzione viene prestata al pittore Lawren Harris e il “Group of Seven” al quale apparteneva, come anche ai poeti A. J. M. Smith e F. R. Scott. Vediamo che l’atmosfera in cui si inseriscono questi artisti è quella di una ricerca di identità. La questione centrale è se esistono una letteratura e/o una pittura nazionale canadesi. Viene osservato a proposito che il nuovo nazionalismo e il “Group of Seven” erano importanti fattori contribuenti a una moderna poesia canadese. Alcune strofe, prese da poesie scritte nel periodo esaminato, illustrano infine questo fervido interscambio fra pittura e poesia.
This article deals with the Canadian poetry and painting of the 20s and shows the importance the observation of the light played in them. On this matter, particular attention is drawn to the painter Lawren Harris and to the ‘Group of Seven’ to which he belonged, as well as to the poets A. J. M. Smith and F. R. Scott. The atmosphere these artists insert themselves into, is that of a quest for identity. The essay revolves around the pivotal question of whether there are a national Canadian literature and/or painting. At this point, it is observed that the new nationalism and the ‘Group of Seven’ were important factors which contributed to a modern Canadian poetry. Some stanzas, taken from poems written during the period mentioned, illustrate this fervid interchange between picture and poetry.
