Abstract
The article is an overview of the life and works of Drago Ivanišević, a Dalmatian Croatian poet born in 1907 in Trieste, which was at the time the main port of the Habsburg Empire. The article's aim is to shed light on his cycle of fifteen poems dedicated to Trieste. These are mostly socially critical autobiographical texts that sketch the life and atmosphere of the city before and during World War I. The poems are written in a southern Chakavian dialect from Dalmatia and are still almost unknown within Trieste's literature. In this article, the authors have translated some of the most significant texts into Triestine in a way that makes them usable for Italian readers, with an analysis of content and style. Moreover, the article outlines Ivanišević's life, with his diverse interests, which ranged from theater to poetry and to literary translation.
