Abstract
The current educational practices inadequately address the complexities of today’s digital and diverse reality. The primary objective of language education should be to cultivate global citizens who are both cognizant and capable of functioning effectively within a global and digital society. This paper examines the challenges and opportunities associated with integrating digital and intercultural skills in language teaching. It highlights prevalent misconceptions and obstacles within the learning environment, as well as the underutilization of existing technology and resources. The effective and secure utilization of digital environments and innovative technologies is further posited as a fundamental component of students’ cross-cultural training as global citizens. Accordingly, language educators and learners should assume a proactive stance in addressing the essential demands of our interconnected world, including the development of critical thinking, empathy, the ability to connect with others, and an appreciation of local contexts within a broader global framework.
