Abstract
“Mafiacraft” is a neologism, but it is also – if not above all – a new concept. And like every concept it refers to a network of connections with other concepts. It responds to a problem and has a history, which is not to be confused with that of the word that expresses it. Starting from this hypothesis I read Mafiacraft. An Ethnography of Deadly Silence by Deborah Puccio-Den, underlining the stakes, which consist in the attempt to name what cannot be named: the silence of a mute group, which as such escapes the grasp of the concept. Along these lines Theodor Adorno’s teaching resonates: the task of philosophy is precisely that of saying what cannot be said.
