Abstract
In this work, some platee of ecclesiastical institutions of the Telesina Valley of the 18th century have been examined and compared with one from the 19th century. The peculiar characteristics of a little studied documentary source have been shown to highlight how important information can be obtained from it on the agricultural and natural land¬scape of peripheral areas of the southern territory, which are not the subject of censuses or mappings with regard to landed property. The central role of ecclesiastical institu-tions in the considered area as possessors of real estate in the mid-18th century has been shown. The main character¬istics of the cartographic production included in the platee have also been noted, from which emerge, despite the lim¬ited tools available, the technical skills of the surveyors, a leading figure in the social panorama of the time.
In questo lavoro sono state esaminate alcune platee di enti ecclesiastici della Valle Telesina realizzate nel Settecento e messe a confronto con una dell’Ottocento. Si sono mostra¬te le caratteristiche peculiari di una fonte documentale poco studiata per evidenziare come si possano da essa ricavare im¬portanti informazioni sul paesaggio agrario e naturale di aree periferiche del territorio meridionale, che non erano oggetto di censimenti o mappature per quanto riguarda i beni fondia¬ri. Si è mostrato il ruolo centrale delle istituzioni ecclesiasti¬che nell’area considerata come possessore di beni immobili a metà Settecento. Sono state inoltre rilevate le principali ca¬ratteristiche della produzione cartografica allegata alle platee, da cui emergono, malgrado i limitati strumenti a disposizione, le competenze tecniche dei periti agrimensori, figura di primo piano nel panorama sociale del tempo.
