Abstract
Starting from the splitting of the world, theorized by Nietzsche, in the immanent and the metaphysical one, the German doctor, essayist and poet Gottfried Benn theorized the incurablity of such fracture. In this contribute we shall expose the philosophical reasons making that fracture nihilistic and, moreover, leading to the theorization of the double life. The biological and social-political life flourishes at the expense of the spiritual and artistic life, while the spirit is in turn bio-negative. Finally, we shall disclose the reasons why Benn believed that, even thou the artistic principle is bio-negative, it can none the less overcome the nihilism.
