Abstract
Unlike other examples of relationships established with powerful central and peripheral officials, which were often nurtured for instrumental reasons related to power, success, and visibility, and faded and disappeared when these came to an end, the rich epistolary exchange between Libanius and his Nicomedæan friend Aristhenetus seems to overcome these contingencies and possess the solidity that only a true and sincere φιλία – one of the few constructed by the Antiochene orator during his lifetime – could provide.
Diversamente da altri casi di relazioni instaurate con potenti funzionari centrali e periferici, le quali si alimentarono spesso per ragioni strumentali legate al potere, al successo, alla visibilità e si affievolirono e vennero meno quando queste finivano, il ricco scambio epistolare tra Libanio e l’amico nicomediese Aristeneto sembra superare queste contingenze e possedere quella solidità che solo una vera e sincera φιλία – una delle poche costruite dall’oratore antiocheno nel corso della sua vita – poteva dare.
