La "meinung des text" e la "art unser deutschen sprache" : Due aspetti fondamentali nella traduzione di Martin Lutero

Abstract
Quest’articolo analizza gli aspetti fondamentali nella traduzione di Martin Lutero. A questo scopo, oltre a esempi tratti dalla sua traduzione della Bibbia in tedesco, vengono presi in considerazione anche la sua Lettera sull’arte del tradurre (Sendbrief von Dolmetschen, 1530) e i suoi Discorsi a tavola (Tischreden, 1531/46). Apprendiamo che a un’interpretazione rigidamente letterale della traduzione, sostenuta dai suoi critici, Lutero contrappone una traduzione che deriva da un lato da quella che egli chiama meinung des text (senso del testo) e, dall’altro lato, dalle caratteristiche peculiari della lingua tedesca (art unser deutschen sprache). Queste due cruciali problematiche sono alla base della teoria e della pratica della sua traduzione. Il principio fondamentale della traduzione di Lutero non è quindi la riproduzione del testo di partenza ma la produzione di un testo di arrivo che doveva essere chiaro e comprensibile per tutti.
This article analyses the fundamental aspects of the translation by Martin Luther. To this end, along with examples taken from his translation of the Bible into German, his "Sendbrief von Dolmetschen" (1530) and his "Tischreden" (1531/46) are also taken into consideration. From his works, we can understand that to a rigidly literal interpretation of translation – as the one advocated by his critics – Luther sets in opposition a translation which originates, on the one hand, from what he calls ‘meinung des text’ (meaning of the text) and, on the other hand, from the peculiar features of the German language (art unser deutschen sprache). These two crucial set of problems are at the basis of the theory and the practice of his translation. Thus, the fundamental principle of Luther’s translation is not the reproduction of the original text, but the production of a new text that has to be clear and understandable by everyone.
