Abstract
Drawing on the recent work by Emilio C. Corriero, the author delves into its philosophical foundations, tracing them back to modern continental philosophy, with particular attention to Schelling, Nietzsche, and Heidegger. This exploration introduces some alternative conceptions of the "man/nature" relationship, that transcend the traditional Subject/Object dichotomy and challenge the notion of human dominion over nature. On one side, scientific evidence appears to support a vision of nature as a chaotic system, though not necessarily a random one. On the other side, rather than positioning humanity in opposition to nature, forms of emergentism and panpsychism extend the mind-body debate to encompass a broader cosmic perspective. Additionally, it is suggested that cognitive processes rely on resources external to the brain, embedded within the surrounding environment. Finally, the paper posits that hope for both the future of the planet and the advancement of philosophical thought may lie in Deweyan naturalism, intricately connected with basic scientific research.
