Abstract
This paper presents a critical discussion of one of Zeno's paradoxes commonly referred to as “Achilles and the Tortoise” with a special attention to its influence, particularly in the last century. I distinguish the purely mathematical aspect of the paradox concerning the problem of convergent infinite series, the ontological one concerning the problem of supertasks, and philosophical one involving density of space, time and motion. Regarding the first, I stress that it is possible to say that it is basically solved since Cauchy. As for the second, I show how, in order to overcome the problem, it is necessary to assume the continuity of the space. Finally, with respect to the third, I discuss the arguments in favor of the density of space, time and motion based on perception and on scientific realism.
