Abstract
Recent geopolitical developments have posed new challenges to the Russian language and translation education. In this context, protest songs in today’s Russia represent an effective teaching resource for the development of translation skills. Their analysis allows students to work on current material and acquire tools for understanding linguistic and cultural complexity, while developing independent thinking. The activities proposed as part of the teaching experiment described in this paper comprise textual and conceptual analysis with the aim of stimulating a creative approach to language teaching, honing professional abilities and techniques as well as forming students’ independent critical thinking to promote cross-cultural dialogue.
