Abstract
The author recounts the development of futures studies, relating it to her own personal story (in 1975 she was Secretary-General of the World Futures Studies Federation and, since 1980, she has been its Chairman), She tells of how such studies were extended from the United States and France, where they were born, to the other countries of Western Europe, North America, Japan, and later also to the countries of Eastern Europe and the developing countries. In this process its principles have gradually been clarified and its methods refined. The author stresses the great professional and personal benefit she has drawn from futures studies, since they enabled her to meet and work with colleagues in many countries, holding different ideologies and visions of the world. She maintains that, in order to overcome the problems of such a rapidly changing world, it is necessary to look not only forward, but also ever farther into the future.
L’autrice racconta lo sviluppo degli studi sul futuro inserendo, al loro interno, la propria storia individuale che l’ha vista, nel 1975, Segretario generale della World Futures Studies Federation e, dal 1980, suo presidente. Narra di come questi studi si siano estesi dagli Usa e dalla Francia - dove sono nati - agli altri paesi dell’Europa occidentale, del nord America, del Giappone e, in seguito, ai paesi dell’Europa orientale e a quelli in via di sviluppo. In questo processo si sono progressivamente chiariti i principi e affinati i metodi. L’autrice sottolinea la grande ricchezza professionale e personale che ha tratto dagli studi sul futuro, in quanto le hanno permesso di venire in contatto e di lavorare con colleghi di diversi paesi, ideologie, visioni del mondo. Sostiene che, per poter superare i problemi in un mondo in così rapido mutamento; è necessario guardare non solo avanti, ma sempre più lontano.
