Cosimo togatus. Cosimo dei Medici nella poesia latina del Quattrocento
Coppini, Donatella
2008
Abstract
According to Alison Brown, Cosimo de’ Medici was praised as a generous patron and an 'Augustan' governor by poets, starting from Marsuppini and Landino. From the familiarity with Cosimo shown in 1426 by Antonio Panormita in his Hermaphroditus to the respectful excess of the encomium in Xandria by Cristoforo Landino, in a few years, from the allusive quotation of Cicero and from the non-mentionable Augustus to the honorable mention of Julius Caesar: evolution of the encomium to Cosimo.
