Abstract
Endelechius’ poem entitled De mortibus boum (‘The Death of the Cattle’) is the most importante case of the revival of the pastoral genre in the Christian literature of the 4th-5th centuries. The article examines Endelechius’ relation with Virgil’s Eclogues and the bucolic tradition, particularly with the Einsiedlen Eclogues, of which Stover recently proposed a late ancient dating. The relation of Endelechius’ poem with the poetic programme proposed in the same years by Paulinus of Nola. is also examined.
Il poema di Endelechio intitolato De mortibus boum (‘La morte dei buoi’) costituisce la piu rilevante ripressa del genere bucolico nella letteratura cristiana del IV-V secolo. L’articolo esamina il rapporto di Endelechio con le Egloghe di Virgilio e con la tradizione bucolica, in particolare con le ecloghe di Einsiedeln, di cui Stover ha proposto recentemenet una datazione tardo-antica. E esaminato inoltre il rapporto del poema di Endelechio con il programma poetico proposto negli stessi anni da Paolino da Nola.
