Il Volkston nella poesia romantica: appunti su un equivoco produttivo

Abstract
Partendo dal ciclo di poesie e canti popolari "Des Knaben Wunderhorn", pubblicato da Clemens Brentano e Achim von Arnim dal 1805 al 1808, viene qui analizzato il ruolo del Volkston nella poesia romantica. L’entusiasmo con cui i poeti tedeschi accoglievano e praticavano il Volkston fra il 1806 e il 1820 corrisponde a un periodo in cui la lirica svolgeva un ruolo sociale e letterario centrale nel panorama tedesco. È stata proprio la raccolta di Arnim e Brentano ad aver impresso alla letteratura del tempo questa svolta verso il Volkston. A definire i caratteri della poesia popolare e a introdurre il termine Volkslied nella storia letteraria, invece, era stato Johann Gottfried Herder. Herder aveva messo in risalto le caratteristiche del Volkslied opponendo la Naturpoesie alla Kunstpoesie. La seconda metà di quest’articolo si concentra sulla discussione che si sviluppò tra Achim von Arnim e Jacob Grimm proprio su questi concetti.
This article analyses the role of the Volkston in Romantic poetry, starting from the cycle of poems and popular songs "Des Knaben Wunderhorn", published by Clemens Brentano and Achim von Armin from 1805 until 1808. The enthusiasm with which German poets welcomed and practised the Volkston between 1806 and 1820 coincides with a period in which poetry played a central social and literary role in the German panorama. It is indeed the collection by Armin and Brentano that imprints the literature of the epoch, this time by moving it towards the Volkston. The one who defined the features of the popular poetry and introduced the term ‘Volkslied’ in literary history, instead, was Johann Gottfried Herder. Herder had emphasised the characteristics of the Volkslied by opposing Naturpoesie to Kunstpoesie. The second half of this article regards the discussion between Achim von Armin and Jacob Grimm which developed exactly on these issues.
