Abstract
The study examines UNESCO Man and Biosphere (MAB) Reserves in Italy by analyzing the cartographic represen¬tations developed and used in their planning processes. Cartography, beyond its technical purpose, holds political and narrative significance, shaping the understanding of the territory. The research explores the criteria that estab¬lish MAB Reserves as innovative models of sustainable de¬velopment and highlights how these Reserves can envision territorial projects that go beyond traditional concepts of conservation.
Il contributo analizza le Riserve Man and Biosphere (MAB) UNESCO in Italia, attraverso lo studio delle rappresentazio¬ni cartografiche elaborate e utilizzate nei loro processi di pianificazione. La cartografia, oltre a essere uno strumento tecnico, assume una valenza politica e narrativa, contribuen¬do alla costruzione del territorio. Il lavoro esplora i criteri che qualificano le Riserve MAB come modelli di sviluppo so¬stenibile innovativi ed evidenzia come possano prefigurare progetti di territorio in grado di superare l’idea tradiziona¬le di tutela.
