Abstract
This research analyses the territorial evolution of the Middle Aterno Valley in the modern age through the study of the representation of the geographical context in historical cartography. The contribution recalls, in the first part, the specific maps depicting Abruzzo from the second half of the 16th century onwards, and in the second part it dwells on locally commissioned representations for smaller portions of the territory, the latter being inscribed in the legal-territorial dispute around the restoration of the integrity of the city-territory, broken by the enfeoffment of the castles sealed by a royal decree in 1529. The last part of the work is focused on georeferencing elements of the Italian Military Geographic Institute’s “25V” series by using the tools and functions of Google Earth Pro, in order to provide a better understanding of the study area’s local features in a three-dimensional environment.
La presente ricerca rappresenta una proposta di analisi dell’evoluzione territoriale della Media Valle dell’Aterno in età moderna, attraverso lo studio della cartografia storica e in una prospettiva di applicazioni digitali per la ricerca geografica. Il contributo richiama, nella prima parte, le carte specifiche raffiguranti l’Abruzzo a partire dalla seconda metà del XVI secolo, e nella seconda si sofferma su raffigurazioni commissionate localmente per porzioni più ristrette di territorio, queste ultime inscritte nella vertenza giuridico territoriale attorno al ripristino dell’integrità della città-territorio, rotta dall’infeudazione dei castelli siglata da un provvedimento regio nel 1529. L’ultima parte del lavoro è dedicata invece alla georeferenziazione di elementi della serie “25V” IGM tramite Google Earth Pro, con l’obiettivo di facilitare la lettura e l’interpretazione della geomorfologia locale, anche in chiave diacronica, rappresentando l’Aternino in un ambiente di lavoro tridimensionale.
