Erasmus + / Youth in Action as a promoter of participation and citizenship: the results of the RAY-LTE project

Abstract
In recent years, European youth policy has recognized the importance of encouraging the participation of young people in the democratic life of Europe. In this direction, the international project “Research-based Analysis of Erasmus Plus: Youth in Action” (RAY) analyzes the experiences of mobility, participation and citizenship of young people. This article presents the main results of RAY-LTE, a research Programme included in the wider international RAY project, with regard to the impact of the mobility training experiences promoted by Erasmus+/ YiA on the attitudes, knowledge, skills and values acquired by the beneficiaries in relation to citizenship and participation. The results of the research show how the effects produced by the mobility experiences favor a commitment to strongly supportive adhesion practices in areas such as volunteering, civil commitment and associations.
Negli ultimi anni, le politiche europee per i giovani hanno riconosciuto l’importanza di incoraggiare la partecipazione dei giovani alla vita democratica europea. In questa direzione, il progetto internazionale “Research-based Analysis of Erasmus Plus: Youth in Action” (RAY) analizza le esperienze di mobilità, partecipazione e cittadinanza dei giovani. Questo articolo presenta i principali risultati di RAY-LTE, un programma di ricerca incluso nel più ampio progetto internazionale RAY, con riferimento all’impatto delle esperienze di mobilità promosse da Erasmus+/ YiA sugli atteggiamenti, le conoscenze, le abilità e i valori acquisiti dai beneficiari in relazione alla cittadinanza e alla partecipazione. I risultati della ricerca mostrano come gli effetti prodotti dalle esperienze di mobilità sembrano favorire un impegno per pratiche di adesione spiccatamente solidali in ambiti quali il volontariato, l’impegno civile e l’associazionismo.
