Abstract
In this paper we want to present a concrete example of interaction between geo-economics and geo-mapping, following a research focused on an analytical approach to the regional context of Basilicata, in order to make appropriate considerations about the propensities, the opportunities, constraints and conditions for a virtuous insertion of this region into the category of the new model of industrial development that the country and Europe aim.
Based on the conviction that the industrial economy is an essential component of a balanced and sustainable territorial development, the study focuses on the analysis of the Lucanian manufacturing system through the use of a geographic information system that highlights the main areas of industrialization, to which public policies and private interests should direct additional investments to trigger economic changes that may contribute to the development of the entire region.
