Toponomastica e iconografia di Muggia nella documentazione cartografica antica
Selva, Orietta
2014
Abstract
Ancient cartography and toponymy appear to be valuable instruments of spatial knowledge. Placenames, with their variety and frequency, offer an historical outlook of the landscape. When a particular term is linked to a location, it offers a picture of the anthropogenic world (anthroponym), conveying feelings, stories, cultures, rules, myths and legends. It further defines a reality which is bound to survive aver time in cartographic documents. Describing the history of Muggia through place-names using ancient papers (maps, documents, pictures) means outlining the changes of the "places" and their perception, so that the past could live organically within the present.
