Abstract
The Treasure of the Duomo of Muggia consists of four groups of items, plus a twentieth century objects appendix. The first, clearly of Venetian origin, it's dated at the fifteenth century and it is realized in late Gothic style; the most relevant objects are the Monstrance, called also Venerable, a chalice with a knot bezels and the Peace. A small Silver cross with crucifix and Veronica, a transition item between Gothic and Renaissance, is dated between the XV and XVI centuries. The second group, also of Venetian influence, includes objects of transition between Renaissance and Baroque, like the Chapter Cross and a chalice with olive silver knot. The third group is also of Venetian origin and forms the main collection of Baroque or Rococo style, with crosses, reliquaries, monstrances, censers, cibaria, hanging lamps, cartegloria and a wide series of altar candlesticks. The fourth core, finally, reflects the Austrian period style of the nineteenth century, when the sacred silverware become serial, with prefabricated and assembled features, according to traditional patterns. The most recent acquisition is an elaborate silver chalice of neo-baroque taste, realized in 1923.
