Abstract
The two thousandth anniversary of the death of Augustus presents an opportunity for a brief summary of the historiography and archeology of Istria during last 77 years. Since the end of the eighteenth century the interest for antiquity has grown, until it reached its peak at the end of the nineteenth century with the establishment of museums, excavations in Pula, Porec and Nesactium, and in their agri. With the reestablishment of the Museum of Pula in 1930 began a new era of publication of data and reports of excavations in the "Notiziario archeologico" published first by Attilio Degrassi and then by Mario Mirabella Roberti. Shortly before the first bimillennium Mirabella Roberti carne to Pula as the first director of the Museum with residence in town, the research of antiquity developed and was modernized, but everything was interrupted by the war. After the conflict, from 1947, three or four archaeologists worked in Pula and Porec, committed to review the data and rebuild museum collections, but since the sixties also fìeldwork was relaunched with the proliferation of investment in tourism. Also in the fìeld of historiography the wounds and tears caused by the war and the exodus were slowly restitched, so that in the field of ancient history today we are at a good point as regards the collaboration. Many new results in the last few decades have greatly enriched the knowledge of the Istrian antiquity.
