Abstract
Ervas and Gola’s condensed volume, meant as a guide to beginners studying metaphor, provides them with a historical survey of the multiple theoretical approaches from ancient to modern times. Furthermore, it presents several aspects and recent applications of metaphor in communication (see politics, advertisements, art, science, didactics). After analysing the structure and content of the book, the review will highlight its merits (such as the attention to interdisciplinary studies) and its shortcomings (mainly due to spatial constraints, i.e. 116 pages), also in taking into account other recent publications regarding the fascinating and evergreen issue of metaphor, in its complex intertwinement between language and thought.
