Abstract
Inizia con il presente una serie di contributi su alcuni grandi cartografi del passato. Il primo episodio è dedicato a Johann Heinrich Lambert. Viene presentato il quadro storico di riferimento ovvero i principali fatti storici dei territori nei quali il cartografo visse; segue una breve nota biografica, che descrive l’uomo nel suo tempo, la sua formazione culturale e le condizioni nelle quali egli lavorò; infine, viene descritta l’opera cartografica dell’eclettico scienziato, ricordando gli attuali campi di applicazione delle sue proiezioni.
This is the first of a series of papers about some great cartographers of the past. The paper deals about Johann Heinrich Lambert. Lambert historical background is presented with particular regard to the historical facts of the areas where he lived. A brief biographical note follows, in which his cultural background and his working conditions are shown. At last, the seven Lambert map projections are introduced, with reference to their current applications.
