Abstract
Where historical cartography represents a “geogram” (Raffestin, 2006), that is an encoded and chronologically fixed image, according to the needs and sensibilities of the historical context that imposed its tracing, however, the map also remains as the detection of a very specific territory. Precisely the stratification of signs, as part of the territorial identity, authorizes the use of georeferencing, modeling and 3D visualization of maps on digital devices obtained with the most modern survey techniques. A highest quality historical cartography, depicting the territories of the Kingdom of Sardinia in the very early Restoration, digitally adapted on the terrain model (DTM) of the Piedmont Region, offered base for an immersive flight simulation on the ancient “Naviglio d’Ivrea”.
