Editorial policy
Visioni LatinoAmericane (VL), Visioni LatinoAmericane (VL), founded in 2009 by the sociologist Francesco Lazzari of the University of Trieste (Italy) under the attribution-noncommercial-noderivatives 4.0 international creative commons license, is a six-monthly, international, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary publication that aims to be a forum for discussion, reflection and in-depth study of issues affecting Latin American countries in their relations with Europe and the rest of the world. It wants to contribute to the consolidation and development of knowledge of social sciences and humanities in a Latin American and international horizon. In order to guarantee originality, transparency, methodological correctness and qualitative impact, it adopts the double-blind review procedure and proposes itself as a tool for outspreading theoretical reflections and results of empirical research in the fields of sociology, anthropology, history, law, social policies and of social work conducted with methodological strictness, without any preclusion and made available to a wider audience. Research findings can have an impact on policy makers, student education processes, and the development and integration of theories and paradigms. It is therefore important that the journal maintains a high level of quality and transparency in the publishing process. This responsibility belongs to all those who are involved in the editorial process: director, authors, editorial board, scientific committee, reviewers. It is inspired by the code of ethics adopted by Cope, Best practice guidelines for journal editors, and by some other journals. Participates in the activities of the Associazione di Studi Sociali Latinoamericani (Assla) and the Consejo Europeo de Investigaciones Sociales de América Latina (Ceisal).
Aims and purposes
VL hosts original and unreleased works, not previously published or being published elsewhere, in Italian, English, Portuguese and Spanish, dealing with issues related to Latin American social sciences, with particular reference to sociology, anthropology, history, law, education, social policies and social work in an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary perspective. It aims to enhance theoretical and empirical contributions, and to be a significant point in the international dialogue that affects contemporary Latin American research and culture in its interdependencies with the rest of the world. It is aimed to anyone interested in Latin American socio-cultural issues with particular attention to scholars, researchers, the entire scientific community, both academic and non-academic, and a wider audience. It is divided into open sections and monographic sections, with specific special issues on topical issues affecting the scientific debate. It also provides for the critical review of Italian and foreign books and conferences in the field of disciplines of interest. All collaborators of Visioni LatinoAmericane are committed to respecting the code of ethics and to guaranteeing, through free and voluntary work, originality and high levels of quality and transparency, which imply the individual responsibilities of authors, director, scientific committee, editorial committee, reviewers , to reach an integrated and shared process (policies, ethical code).
Ethical code
Visioni LatinoAmericane is an international scientific double-blind peer review journal inspired by the ethical code for publications developed by Cope, Best practice guidelines for journal editors, and by some other journals. VL's goal is to encourage research and reflection, both theoretical and empirical, without any cultural preclusion, guaranteeing high quality, originality and transparency. It submits all articles to specific software in order to systematically scrutinize the originality of the text and avoid any form of plagiarism, both from other authors and from self-plagiarism.
Nevertheless, if a posteriori it becomes clear that the substance or the conclusions of a published article are incorrect or have been plagiarized by the author, depending on the seriousness VL can decide the embargo and/or promote the publication of a retraction or rectification, without prejudice to the author's full liability before the law, the scientific community and whoever has been plagiarized (ethical code).
International peer review
The magazine adopts the double-blind international peer-review procedure as a requirement for scientific research practice. The evaluation system proceeds from an initial screening by the scientific director in consultation with the international scientific board and editorial board. For the acceptance of the contribution, an assessment (revision form) is required by two anonymous external reviewers, Italian or foreign (double-blind international peer review), which guarantees its originality, absence of plagiarism, correctness methodology and the potential qualitative impact. In the event of conflicting opinions, the opinion of a third external reviewer is requested. VL does not accept articles proposed to other journals or already published or in the process of being published, or parts of dissertations. As required by the ethical code, sharing the values of scientific work is required to all those who contribute to the creation of the journal – director, scientific board, editorial board, reviewers, authors – with particular regard to originality, transparency, methodological structure and ethical correctness. All parties involved in the publication process are guaranteed the right to confidentiality and are required to comply with the journal's ethical guidelines. With the publication, the author assigns the copyright free of charge under the creative commons attribution-noncommercial-noderivatives 4.0 international license. He agrees to keep the rights to his work and gives the journal the right of first publication (for authors).
Open access policy
The journal VL can be consulted free of charge by accessing its website freely without registration restrictions. It is entirely open access, in compliance with license creative commons attribution-noncommercial-noderivatives 4.0 international. It allows anyone, who does not make a commercial use, to download, reuse, re-print, modify, distribute and/or copy the final version of the documents, providing that the works are correctly attributed to the author, who in any case retains the rights.
