Abstract
This paper analyses a colossal Proconnesus marble capital with Schildbüsten (inv. no. 1345) currently exhibited at the Museo archeologico nazionale of Aquileia. The aim is to trace its provenance and reconstruct its collection history. The main objective is to frame the artifact within the Aquileian architectural context. The investigation’s results show that the artifact belongs to the Cassis collection and dates back to the Antonine era, probably following the war events of 167-170 AD and the spread of the plague, which also afflicted Aquileia. It provides a further element for reconstructing the Aquileian urban landscape in the late 2nd century A.D.
