Rendiconti dell'Istituto di Matematica dell'Università di Trieste: an International Journal of Mathematics vol.37 (2005)

Details

Editorial policy The journal Rendiconti dell’Istituto di Matematica dell’università di Trieste publishes original articles in all areas of mathematics. Special regard is given to research papers, but attractive expository papers may also be considered for publication. The journal usually appears in one issue per year. Additional issues may however be published. In particular, the Managing Editors may consider the publication of supplementary volumes related to some special events, like conferences, workshops, and advanced schools. All submitted papers will be refereed. Manuscripts are accepted for review with the understanding that the work has not been published before and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere. Our journal can be obtained by exchange agreements with other similar journals.

Instructions for Authors Authors are invited to submit their papers by e-mail directly to one of the Managing Editors in PDF format. All the correspondence regarding the submission and the editorial process of the paper are done by e-mail. Papers have to be written in one of the following languages: English, French, German, or Italian. Abstracts should not exceed ten printed lines, except for papers written in French, German, or Italian, for which an extended English summary is required. After acceptance, manuscripts have to be prepared in LaTeX using the style rendiconti.cls which can be downloaded from the web page. Any figure should be recorded in a single PDF, PS (PostScript), or EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) file.

A Note on the CR Cohomology of Levi-Flat Minimal Orbits in Complex Flag Manifolds
(Università degli Studi di Trieste. Dipartimento di Matematica e Informatica, 2005)
    Altomani, Andrea
We prove a relation between the $\bar{\partial}_{M}$ cohomology of a minimal orbit of M of a real form of $\mathbf{G}_{0}$ of a complex semisimple Lie group $\mathbf{G}$ in a flag manifold $\mathbf{G}/\mathbf{Q}$ and the Dolbeault cohomology of the Matsuki dual open orbit X of the complexification $\mathbf{K}$ of a maximal compact subgroup $\mathbf{K}_{0}$ of $\mathbf{G}_{0}$, under the assumption that M is Levi-flat.

Lifting Finite Groups of Outer Automorphisms of Free Groups, Surface Groups and their Abelianizations
(Università degli Studi di Trieste. Dipartimento di Matematica e Informatica, 2005)
    Zimmermann, Bruno P.
In the present note, in part written as a survey, we discuss the possibility of lifting finite subgroups, and in particular finite cyclic subgroups, with respect to the canonical projections between automorphism and outer automorphism groups of free groups, surface groups and their abelianizations.

Some Nonexistence Results for Systems of Nonlinear Partial Differential Inequalities
(Università degli Studi di Trieste. Dipartimento di Matematica e Informatica, 2005)
    Galakhov, Evgeny
We obtain nonexistence results for systems of stationary and evolutional partial differential inequalities that involve p-Laplacian and similar nonlinear operators as well as gradient nonlinearities. Our proofs are based on the nonlinear capacity method.

    On Self-Injectivity and p-Injectivity
(Università degli Studi di Trieste. Dipartimento di Matematica e Informatica, 2005)
    Yue Chi Ming, Roger
A generalization of injectivity is studied and several properties are developed. Von Neumann regular rings are characterized. Sufficient conditions are given for a ring to admit a strongly regular classical left quotient ring. A nice characterization of strongly regular rings is given. Special direct summands of left self-injective regular and left continuous regular rings are considered.

    Polymer Crystallization Waves

We prove the existence of travelling wave solutions for a polymer crystallization model. The mathematical problem governing the process consists in a system of two coupled first order PDE, the heat equation with a source term for the temperature and the isokinetic law, involving an order parameter $\psi \in$ [0, 1], whose extreme values correspond to pure phases.
