Il Frasario Bawlé di padre Vincent Guerry

Details

The present study is a commented edition of a bawlé phrase, originally written in French and then translated into Italian, written by Father Vincent Guerry, a Benedictine monk whose work on bawlé culture is universally known. His book, La vie giornidienne dans a village baoulé, is a classic repeatedly reprinted. The Frasario by Father Vincent Guerry is not a vocabulary, although it has, at least in part, the external structure: it is quite rare that the author signals limbs for their semantic specificity. It is not an aid to learn the language, since the gaps are too obvious, and not even a collection of 'useful' phrases, since even in this respect gaps would be too much. It reflects a real experience: there are many phrases that in themselves do not mean what Father Guerry translates, but they are understandable only in a particular context: in these cases the author is limited to recording some phrases in relation to Certain situations.
