Abstract: In the Appendix to Eugenius of Toledo (MGH auct. ant. 14, 1905), Friedrich Vollmer published an enigmatic set of pieces against love and marriage in old age (carm. 29-47), which he had found in a fragment of a late ninth- or tenth-century manuscript (Madrid 10029, Part I). Another copy, unnoticed by Vollmer, has been recently identified: El Escorial M-III-2, a twelfth-century law book from northern Spain, modelled on a tenth-century Mozarabic exemplar. Here the anthology is found within an assemblage of texts used as a prelude to the Ervigian Liber Iudicum. This new evidence provides some clarification to the text and to the original intention of the anthology.
